Why SP Soccer Academy?
At SP Soccer Academy, we are committed to developing young players. While other programs may make promises they don’t always deliver, our philosophy is to focus on action, not empty promises.
Our founder, Gino Padula, is a pioneer in youth soccer training in Columbus, including the introduction of indoor training programs, driven by his belief that players need to train as much as possible to reach their potential. His vision goes beyond fostering a winning mentality. He emphasizes player growth, skill development, and a love for the game. Gino has provided opportunities for players of all skill levels, helping grow youth soccer in Columbus with the mindset reflected in our motto: BECOME BETTER.
At SP Soccer Academy, we believe that every player deserves the opportunity to improve with the right training system, guidance, and leadership.
Will Gino Padula actually be training and coaching?
Gino will have as much day-to-day contact with the teams as possible. SP Soccer Academy operates under a unified training system in which all coaches follow the same structured program based on Gino’s technical methodology. This ensures consistency, quality, and that every instructor is aligned with the academy’s philosophy and standards.
From Gino:
"I made the decision to retire from professional soccer because I want to be 100% involved in our academy here in Columbus. I will be full-time at SP Soccer Academy. I know that some former professional players start academies but are not truly involved. They simply put their name on the door. I want to assure you that this is not our case. This is a long-term project, and I am here for the long term. I came to Columbus with my family, we have made it our home, and we are here to stay permanently."
What makes SP Soccer Academy different?
Our philosophy is to train both boys and girls using the same professional methodology, starting with strong fundamentals:
- Passing
- Ball control
- Dribbling
- Tactical understanding
- Game concepts and terminology
- Competitive match play
We focus on developing a winning mentality, without placing unnecessary pressure on players for results. Our goal is to help players grow confidently, compete with character, and develop skills that benefit them both on the field and in life.
We may occasionally mix age groups during training sessions. This method, used by clubs such as FC Barcelona, encourages players to challenge themselves and improve faster. In some cases, players may also compete in tournaments with older age groups when appropriate.
Our vision is to build competitive teams from the beginning and establish an academy that is recognized and respected not only in Columbus and Ohio, but beyond.
